The biggest event of February was the Key West Aquarium’s 90th anniversary celebration.
The aquarium opened its doors on February 17, 1935, and is still going strong. During a public ceremony, Mayor DeeDee Henriquez proclaimed February 17 “Key West Aquarium Day,” and presented the proclamation to Director of Operations Clinton Curry. Specially decorated cakes were served, and the new commemorative trolley wrap was unveiled. Sheldon C. Turtle appeared, joined by Turkey the red-footed tortoise, for photo ops galore! Ed Swift III was in attendance to speak at the ceremony and made sure to say hello to Turkey as well.
